VA Healthcare-VISN 4 in conjunction with the Pittsburgh Steelers sponsored the 4th annual Heroes at Heinz Field event on Sept. 20, 2011. Seventy-five Veterans and their guests were invited to pass, punt and catch with their favorite Steelers.

Next Step Golf Clinic
Amputee Veterans gathered in South Jersey for camaraderie and a round of golf as they took part in the Amputee Veterans Next Step Golf Clinic. The goal is to give the Veterans the tools they need to play a game of golf on their own and continue on the path of rehabilitation and recovery.

Enroll in VA Health Care
VISN 4 produced a public service announcement encouraging returning OEF/OIF service members to enroll in VA health care. The PSA, featuring former Pittsburgh Steeler Rocky Bleier and VISN 4 Network Director Michael Moreland, will air on television and radio stations throughout VISN 4 and other states in the mid-Atlantic region.

Stryker Brigade Returns Home
In September, 4,100 soldiers from the Pennsylvania National Guard’s 56th Stryker Brigade returned from Iraq. For the first time ever, a team from VISN 4 was on hand to help the troops enroll in and understand their guaranteed VA health care coverage.

First Swing Golf Clinic
VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System hosted a First Swing Amputee Golf Clinic on Tuesday August 18, 2009 at Scally’s Golf Center in Moon Township, Pa. Nine Amputee Veterans attended the free clinic and were assisted by four PGA professionals. The PGA professionals worked with the Veterans to teach basic skills to first-time golfers and assist experienced golfers in perfecting their current skills.
