May 2010

Michael Moreland, VISN 4 network director,talks with Clayton Rankin, an Army wound warrior advocate, and his service dog, Harley Davidson, Clarksburg - May 12 & 13
Mr. Moreland made his annual site visit to the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center in Clarksburg, W.Va., May 12 and 13. During his time, he toured the off-campus sites and the West Virginia State Veterans Nursing Facility, which is next to the medical center, and spoke at the VA Voluntary Service quarterly meeting. He also participated in the open house for the newly renovated Emergency Department, where he spoke with several staff members, volunteers and Veterans regarding the changes.

Mr. Moreland visited the Philadelphia VA Medical Center, meeting with key staff at the facility and checking out the newly renovated Women’s Health Clinic. He also toured the Emergency Department, which is now in a temporary space as it undergoes a $6 million renovation and expansion.


Wilmington - April 13
Ribbon cutting at 3 East, Wilmington  VA.Mr. Michael Moreland, FACHE, visited the Wilmington VA Medical Center and toured several areas under construction, including the Community Living Center and Emergency Department, both of which are undergoing major upgrades and renovations. Mr. Moreland also officially opened the new "Coffee Café" in the main lobby and officiated a ribbon-cutting ceremony of the Medical Center’s new Ambulatory Surgery wing. During his visit, Mr. Moreland met with Congressional staffers from Delaware and New Jersey and shared with them his vision for VA’s future and expressed his gratitude for their continuing support.


Volunteers of the Disabled American Veteran Transportation Program who were recognized at All Employee Forum for diverting a potential crisis.Coatesville - April 13
Mr. Moreland visited Coatesville VA Medical Center and toured Fresh Start NOW, a 15 bed program that offers emergency housing for Veterans who are awaiting placement in other CVAMC inpatient programs. He also spoke with employees at the bimonthly Director’s Town Hall meeting, also called All Employee Forum.

The Philadelphia Veterans Affairs Medical Center broke ground on a new parking garage Friday, March 26, 2010. The $9 million, 450-space structure is the next step in efforts to provide more parking for patients and staff on the Philadelphia VA land-locked urban campus. The garage is one of many projects under way at the Philadelphia VAMC, totaling about $40 million.


January 2010

Lebanon - Jan. 14
Mr. Moreland visited the Lebanon VA Medical Center and toured the new Women’s Health Clinic which is scheduled to open on February 2, 2010. He also provided comments at the first annual “Clinicians Retreat” hosted by Dr. Kanan Chatterjee, Chief of Staff.

Wilkes-Barre - Jan. 12
Mr. Moreland toured the inpatient care settings within the Medical Center: Community Living Center, Intensive Care Unit, Inpatient Psychiatry Unit and the Acute Medical/Surgical Unit. While on tour, Mr. Moreland spoke with employees and greeted a number of patients, often discussing the quality services and care being provided to our veterans.

Congressman Joe Sestak (D-PA) visited VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System’s Heinz Division on Monday, January 11. Congressman Sestak was given a tour of the Veterans Recovery Center, including one of the residential living villas. The Congressman also did a brief walk through of the hospice unit in the Community Living Center.
