Site Visit - Wilmington VA Medical Center Veteran Summit Meeting

On April 3, U.S. Senator Tom Carper hosted his Annual Veterans Summit at the Wilmington VA Medical Center. There were approximately 45 attendees including Dr. David Shulkin, Secretary of Veterans Affairs, members of the Delaware Commission of Veterans Affairs, Veteran Service Organizations (VSOs), staff members from the Congressional Offices of Senator Tom Carper, Senator Chris Coons and Congresswoman Lisa Blunt Rochester, and leadership from VISN 4 and Wilmington VAMC.

During the event, Secretary Shulkin communicated his 10 priorities for VA. Leadership from VA Wilmington updated the group and shared ideas about to how improve services for Veterans in the Delaware area. Senator Carper and representatives for Senator Coons and Congresswoman Rochester also provided brief remarks. Following the formal presentations, there was an open discussion with the VSOs to respond to their questions, comments and feedback. Overall, the VSOs were complimentary of the services provided and offered suggestions for improvements that can be made at the medical center, regional office and at the national level.
