Stay Connected to Your Care Team
To help prevent the spread of the coronavirus, VA Healthcare-VISN 4 has expanded the use of virtual care, making it easier for our Veterans to see and communicate with their VA health care providers and teams.
Here are a few ways Veterans can use VA virtual care tools from the safety and comfort of their own home:
Telehealth
The use of virtual care has increased tremendously in VISN 4 as health care providers in our network completed more than 17,000 video visits in the month of May. More Veterans are now connecting with their care teams every day through VA Video Connect, allowing them to receive care from home, work or wherever they may be by using their computer, smartphone or tablet.
VISN 4 is also expanding video-to-home visits in other specialties such as Home-Based Primary Care, Nutrition, Home Telehealth, and Veterans Justice Outreach.
Before participating in a video visit, VA staff will first prepare Veterans to verify they have the proper equipment and to ensure they have a good experience.
Virtual care will play an important role in how VA and VISN 4 provide health care moving forward, and we encourage all Veterans to try a video visit for an upcoming appointment. For more information on VA Video Connect or to download the app, visit the VA mobile app store.
My HealtheVet
My HealtheVet allows you to access your VA health information online. By creating a free My HealtheVet Premium account, you can view your VA records, request VA appointments, order and ship VA prescription refills, and send secure messages to your VA care team.
Any Veteran wishing to register for a My HealtheVet account can sign up online at www.myhealth.va.gov. Once registered, Veterans who require a premium account upgrade can contact their local My HealtheVet Coordinator who is now able to assist and complete the identity verification process using VA Video Connect.
Home Telehealth
The VISN 4 Home Telehealth Program can assist you in managing your chronic diseases all while in the comfort of your home. Using VA telehealth devices, you can send information such as your heart rate, glucose levels, or blood pressure to your VA care team right from home. With more data, your providers can tailor your treatment specifically to your needs and improve the care you receive.
If you need to contact your health care team, communicating with VA has never been easier. You can reach your home telehealth care coordinator by telephone or by sending a secure message using My HealtheVet.
VA Telehealth Services gives you access to the care you need, when and where you need it. Any Veteran who qualifies to receive VA care is eligible to use VA telehealth. Contact your VA care team to develop a care plan that works for you.
