More than 91% of women Veterans surveyed in the VA Healthcare–VISN 4 region said they felt respected and comfortable at their last VA health care visit.

Data pulled this summer places VISN 4, which delivers VA health care throughout Pennsylvania, Ohio, Delaware, West Virginia and New York, at the top nationwide in offering a welcoming environment for women.

"I'm proud to be a Veteran and feel extremely appreciated when I'm at the medical center," wrote a Philadelphia Veteran regarding her latest experience.

Additional comments from women Veterans in VISN 4 praised VA for integrating care, improved services and compassionate care from VA staff.

The respect rating by these women at 91.3% is just below the 93% of all Veterans who said they felt welcome at VA facilities nationwide.

Nearly 43,000 U.S. Veterans, women and men, responded to the survey conducted by VA's national Veterans Experience Office.

Comprehensive primary care services for women Veterans include:

  • Disease prevention and nutrition counseling
  • Birth control, preconception counseling, and menopausal support
  • Pap smears, ultrasounds and mammograms
  • Mental health services for depression, posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and substance use problems
